Willow Fairy was a little mermaid who lived at Spellcasters Hall. The hall stood beside a round, blue pool. Its doors were purple. Its windows sparkled like stars.
Willow had a green tail and a tiny silver crown. She was shy, but very kind. She loved to help. Every morning, she splashed in the pool and sang, “Hello, water! Hello, day!”
Her friend Elf lived in a tall shell near the pool. Elf had pointy ears, yellow boots, and a big smile. Elf was playful. He liked to hop, skip, and make silly faces.
One bright morning, Willow saw something strange. The water in the pool was gray.
“Oh no,” said Willow. “The blue is gone.”
Elf dipped one boot into the pool. “Brrr. It looks sad,” he said.
Then Sorceress came down the shiny stairs. She wore a dark cloak and carried a crooked wand. She was not roaring or shouting. She looked worried.
“I tried to make a blue bubble spell,” said Sorceress. “But my wand sneezed. Achoo! Now the pool has lost its color.”
Willow felt a little scared. Sorceress looked very powerful. But Willow saw a tear on Sorceress’s cheek.
“We can help,” Willow said softly.
Elf clapped. “A color hunt! I love a color hunt!”
Sorceress opened a small book. “To bring back the blue, we need three things: a sky drop, a blue feather, and a moon pebble.”
Willow nodded. “Let’s go.”
First, Willow swam through the little water tunnel under Spellcasters Hall. The tunnel was dark. Drip, drip, drip.
“I am scared,” whispered Willow.
Elf held her hand. “We can be scared together.”
At the end of the tunnel, they found a tiny sky drop resting on a leaf. It was blue and shiny.
“Plop!” said Willow, putting it in a shell cup.
Next, they went to the windy garden. A blue bird zoomed over their heads.
“Please, may we have one blue feather?” asked Willow.
The bird gave a happy chirp. One soft feather floated down.
“Tickle, tickle!” giggled Elf as it landed on his nose.
Last, they climbed the gentle hill behind the hall. The moon was waking up in the pale sky. Under a silver flower sat a round moon pebble.
Willow picked it up. It glowed in her hand.
They hurried back to the pool. Sorceress waited by the water. Her face was still worried.
Willow dropped in the sky drop. Elf placed in the feather. Sorceress added the moon pebble.
Then Willow said, “Kind water, be blue again.”
Sorceress lifted her wand. “Please work,” she said.
Puff! Pop! Splash!
The pool turned bright blue. Blue bubbles bounced everywhere. They bounced on Elf’s boots. They bounced on Willow’s crown. One bubble bounced right onto Sorceress’s hat.
Elf laughed. Willow laughed. Even Sorceress laughed.
“I am sorry,” said Sorceress. “Next time, I will practice my spell far away from the pool.”
“That is a good idea,” said Willow.
Sorceress smiled and gave Willow a gift. It was a little pearl necklace with a blue star charm.
“For brave Willow,” she said. “You helped me, even when you felt scared.”
Willow wore the necklace. It glimmered in the blue water.
Elf gave her a big hug. “You are a brave mermaid!”
Willow smiled. “I was scared,” she said. “But I had a friend. And I kept going.”
That night, Spellcasters Hall shone with blue lights. Willow swam in the happy pool. Elf danced in his yellow boots. Sorceress made only tiny, safe bubbles.
And Willow’s blue star charm twinkled all night long.
