Princess Gracie and the Shiny Crown

Kids stories

Princess Gracie can’t find her tiny gold crown in the Castle. With the King and Queen, she follows a shy Monster’s clues and finds a sweet treasure, too.
Princess Gracie and the Shiny Crown

Princess Gracie was a little girl in a big Castle. She was kind. She was brave, but a bit shy.

One morning, she looked for her tiny gold crown. “My crown!” she said. “Where did it go?”

The King, her dad, stroked his beard. He was calm and wise. “We will look, little star,” he said.

The Queen, her mom, hugged her. She was gentle and bright. “We look together,” she said. “One step at a time.”

They checked the soft bed. No crown.
They checked the tall chair. No crown.
They checked the toy box. No crown.

Princess Gracie’s eyes got wet. “I want it,” she whispered.

The Queen wiped her cheek. “It is okay to feel sad,” she said. “Breathe with me. In… out…”

“Now we try again,” said the King. “Follow the little clues.”

They walked down the Castle hall. Tap-tap went Gracie’s shoes. The hall had pictures and shiny windows.

A low sound came from behind a curtain.
“Grrrr…,” said a Monster.

Princess Gracie stopped. She held the Queen’s hand tight.
The Monster was big. The Monster had a round tummy. The Monster had messy hair.

The King stood in front, but his voice stayed soft. “Hello,” he said. “Are you lost?”

The Monster blinked. “I… I hear crying,” it mumbled. “It makes my ears feel wiggly.”

Princess Gracie peeked out. “Did you take my crown?” she asked, very small.

The Monster shook its head fast. “No! I do not take. I only hide. When I am scared, I hide.”

“Why scared?” asked Gracie.

The Monster pointed. “The Castle is loud. Doors slam. Boots stomp. I thought someone would chase me.”

The Queen nodded. “That sounds scary,” she said. “We will not chase. We will help.”

Princess Gracie took one tiny step. “Monster,” she said, “can you help me find my crown?”

The Monster sniffed. “I am good at finding shiny things,” it said. “I smell sparkle.”

So they followed the Monster. Past the kitchen: warm bread smell. Past the stairs: echo-echo. Past the library: quiet pages.

The Monster stopped by a window seat. “Here,” it said.

Under a pillow was the tiny gold crown.

Princess Gracie gasped. “My crown!” She put it on. It felt safe and bright.

The King smiled. “Thank you,” he told the Monster.

The Monster looked down. “I did not mean to scare,” it said.

Princess Gracie held out a small velvet pouch. Inside were five candy gems from the Castle jar—red, blue, green, yellow, and purple.

“For you,” she said. “A treasure.”

The Monster’s eyes went wide. “For me?”

“Yes,” said Gracie. “And you can have a quiet corner, too.”

The Queen brought a soft blanket and a little bell. “Ring if you need help,” she said.

The Monster sat by the window seat, munching one candy gem. “Mmm,” it said. “Not so loud now.”

Princess Gracie twirled once. “I was brave,” she said.

The King nodded. “Brave and kind,” he said.

And in the Castle, the crown was found, the Monster had sweet treasure, and everyone felt cozy again.
