Gracie Superbaby is a tiny superhero. She wears a soft cape. It is pink and warm. She lives near the Enchanted Forest.
Today the forest looks dim. Not dark-dark. Just… less bright.
Gracie pats her belly. “Superbaby ready!”
A small friend floats down. Moon Child. Moon Child glows like a little night-light. Moon Child is gentle and curious.
“Hi, Gracie,” Moon Child whispers. “The forest colors are hiding.”
Gracie blinks. “Colors gone?”
Moon Child nods. “We can bring them back. Follow the shiny leaves.”
They walk into the Enchanted Forest. Trees sway. Mushrooms look like buttons. A brook goes glug-glug.
Gracie hears a squeak.
On a stump sits Toy. Toy is a wind-up toy with a crank. Toy looks grumpy.
Toy says, “Mine! Mine! I took the colors.”
Gracie puts hands on hips. “No. Forest needs colors.”
Toy shakes. “I want to be special. I want everyone to look at me.”
Moon Child floats closer. “Toy, you can be special without taking.”
Toy turns away. Click-click.
Gracie thinks. She is small, but she is brave. She is also kind.
“Toy,” Gracie says softly, “do you feel lonely?”
Toy’s eyes blink. “Maybe.”
Gracie reaches into her superhero pocket. She pulls out a tiny sticker star. “Here. A star for you.”
Toy stares. “For me?”
“Yes,” says Gracie. “But please give back the colors.”
Toy hesitates. Then Toy points to a hollow tree. “I hid them there. In a color jar.”
They peek inside. A jar sits in the hollow. It is stuffed with little lights: red, yellow, green, blue.
Gracie tries to lift it. “Oof!”
Moon Child helps. “Together.”
Gracie and Moon Child count, “One… two… three!”
They lift the jar out.
But the lid is stuck.
Gracie taps it. “Hmm.”
Moon Child giggles. “Try warm hands.”
Gracie hugs the jar. Superbaby hug! The lid loosens with a pop.
Whoosh!
Colors fly out like butterflies.
Red splashes onto berries. Yellow jumps onto flowers. Green runs up the leaves. Blue pours into the sky.
The Enchanted Forest brightens. Sparkle-sparkle.
Toy’s face changes. Toy looks surprised. “It’s… pretty.”
Gracie nods. “Pretty for everyone.”
Toy shuffles. “I am sorry.”
Moon Child says, “Let’s make you special in a good way.”
Gracie has an idea. “Toy, you can be the Color Helper!”
Toy’s crank wiggles. “Color Helper?”
“Yes,” says Gracie. “You can carry the color jar and share colors when something fades.”
Toy smiles. “I can do that.”
The forest gives a thank-you gift. A leaf drops into Gracie’s hands. It turns into a tiny rainbow badge.
Gracie gasps. “A new badge!”
Moon Child claps. “You earned it.”
Gracie pins it on her cape. “Superbaby shining!”
Toy holds the jar carefully. “I will share.”
They all walk together. The brook sings. The trees wave.
Gracie looks at Moon Child. “Team?”
“Team,” says Moon Child.
Gracie yawns a little. “Now… snack?”
Moon Child laughs. “Snack.”
In the bright Enchanted Forest, Gracie Superbaby feels warm and proud. And the colors stay right where they belong.
